Although the Grading functionality in previous versions of Kobi Toolkit for Civil 3D was already very advanced, there was still significant room for technical improvements. For example, it was only possible to create one TIN Surface from all grading elements.
As a result, adding boundaries and breaklines to the TIN Surface within the Grading command was not an option. Additionally, grading components could only be added sequentially, one after another, and only on one side of the selected element.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the key new features and advantages of the updated Grading tools in the Kobi Toolkit for Civil 3D.
The Grading tools in Kobi Toolkit for Civil 3D offer an intuitive and efficient solution for surface modeling using grading components. These tools are essential for civil engineers and designers working on complex projects, such as earthworks, site development, and road construction.
Kobi Grading tools are located in the Surface and Grading panel on the Kobi Toolkit for Civil 3D ribbon.
Understanding Grading Components
Users can create grading directly from polylines, 3D polylines and lines, without the need to select feature lines. The starting element is known as a grading baseline. So, from this base, users can add multiple components to the individual grading. New grading components can be added to existing components in any desired order.
Various types of grading methods can be used to create grading components.
Creating TIN Surfaces from Grading Lines
One of the key new key features of our grading tools is the ability to create multiple TIN Surfaces for a single grading in one step. Users can easily add TIN Surfaces between specified grading lines or breaklines using the intuitive interface. This simplifies the process of modeling finished ground surfaces.
Adding TIN Surface Boundaries to Gradings
The Grading command provides options for defining TIN Surface Boundaries. By specifying grading line codes representing the outer edges of the TIN surface, users can create a well-defined and contained surface. This functionality is particularly useful for projects requiring strict boundary control, such as site and road design projects.
Adding Breaklines to Gradings
The Breaklines feature enables users to create precise TIN surfaces. Users can specify a list of grading lines that will be added to a TIN Surface as breaklines. This feature allows for the creation of a detailed TIN surface that meets specific design requirements.
In the same step where breaklines and boundaries are specified, we can also assign a Style and Render Material to the TIN surface.
Create Grading Templates
Users can copy an existing grading to multiple elements in the drawing in a single step, significantly speeding up their workflow. The existing grading definition can also be added to a template for later use in other projects. This feature enables users to build a customized library of grading elements for future use.
Create Complex Grading Designs
Users can add components to a grading element on both sides of the baseline. Gradings can be split into multiple sections with different grading parameters, including grading transitions. This allows users to create complex 3D models, such as pools and construction pits, with a single grading.
