Traffic Signs CAD Blocks: Control Colors with Separate Layers

AutoCAD-BricsCAD, Civil 3D, Kobi Signs & Stripes

If you work with traffic sign CAD blocks, you know that managing colors efficiently can be crucial for both clarity and printing. One of the most powerful yet often overlooked features in Kobi Signs and Stripes software is the “Create separate layer for each hatch color” option. This functionality allows designers to take full control over hatch colors when inserting traffic signs into their CAD drawings.

How To Create a Separate Layer for Each Hatch Color

You can enable this feature in the Insert Sign Holder dialog:

  1. Go to the Kobi Signs and Stripes ribbon.
  2. Select Insert Sign Holder.
  3. In the lower-left corner, click the Settings button.
  4. In the Insert Sign Settings dialog, check the option Create separate layer for each hatch color and confirm with OK.

Once activated, every time you insert a traffic sign block, the software will automatically assign hatch colors to their respective layers. This simplifies your workflow and gives you full control over color visibility and printing output.

What Does the “Create Separate Layer for Each Hatch Color” Do?

When enabled, this option automatically generates a new CAD layer for every hatch color used in a traffic sign block. Hatch colors are defined in the following configuration file:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\KobiLabs\SignsAndStripes\KOBI_Traffic.TrafficSigns.LayerColorSettings.json

You can even customize this list, by adding new colors or assigning custom layer names to match your project’s standards.

Here’s what makes this feature so handy:

  • Customizable colors: Designers can replace the default red, blue, or yellow with custom shades to match client requirements or project standards.
  • Layer management: Each color gets its own layer, which can be easily toggled ON or OFF. This is particularly useful when printing plans for traffic management or urban design projects.
  • No duplicate layers: If a layer for a particular color already exists in the drawing, the software won’t create a new one. Only new colors will generate new layers.

Why It Matters for Traffic Design Projects

Many clients ask how they can manage hatch colors for traffic signs in their CAD drawings. With this feature, the answer is simple: designers can adjust colors, turn layers on or off, and even customize shades without altering the base blocks. This flexibility is ideal for:

  • Creating clear and readable traffic management plans,
  • Printing plans with precise color distinctions,
  • Adapting to client-specific color requirements.

By using the “Create separate layer for each hatch color” option, you can save time, improve project clarity, and ensure that your traffic sign plans look professional and polished.

If you work with traffic signs CAD blocks, this is one feature you don’t want to overlook. Take control of your layers, streamline your workflow, and make managing hatch colors easier than ever!
